Every year more and more foreign students come to Ukrainian higher education establishments for studying. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the annual increase in foreign students is 10%, and in general, about 48 thousand students from other countries study in Ukrainian universities.
What attracts foreign students in getting higher education in Ukraine? Firstly, it is relatively inexpensive as compared to getting higher education in other countries. Secondly, Ukraine has high-quality academic school and level of the knowledge you get there. Thirdly, you have confidence that if you have come to study, you will definitely complete your studies, as in Western Europe, the procedure is more complex and not every student receives a diploma there. Fourthly, it is a great opportunity to move to live in a more developed country of the West. It is primarily attractive for students from poorer countries.
Students from all over the world come to get education in Ukraine. In total geography of the countries from which students arrive numbers approximately 129 countries. The most numerous student fraternities in Ukraine are Chinese, Iranian, Russian, Syrian and Jordanian. The most sought-after professions among foreigners are an engineer, a doctor, an economist and financier.
Foreigners prefer studying in Kyiv and Kharkov, and in Kyiv there are twice more foreign students than in Kharkov. And the most popular universities are the National Aviation University (NAU) and Bogomolets National Medical University.
In addition to Kyiv and Kharkov, foreign students come to study in Odessa, Donetsk, Lvov and Luhansk.
The majority of Ukrainian higher education establishments offer special training courses to foreign applicants. During a year, they learn Russian or Ukrainian, as well as the vocation-related subjects. The cost of such training courses varies from 1.5 to 3 thousand dollars. Having passed the training courses, foreign students may enter any higher education institution in Ukraine, no matter where they passed them.
As a rule, all universities of Ukraine provide international students with accommodation in a dormitory. The comfort of dormitories depends on the university / institute, which accepts you for education, and there are no strict norms here. If desired and possible, students can rent an apartment, but living in the dormitory has one indisputable advantage – communication with Ukrainian students and improvement of language skills. In the dormitory it is much easier to establish relationships and make friends with other students, exchange information relating to the subjects you study. In addition, the linguistic and cultural adaptation is going on faster in a team.
